For Environmental and National Security - Don't Buy Gas

Gas is the wrong fuel and ethanol is the wrong additive.  I want my tacos cheap!

The intermediate answer to transportation are bio-diesel hybrids.
See this article from UMN news.  It points out that soybean based biodiesel is the economically viable solution.  An excerpt:

"Their answer? It [corn based ethanol: ed] delivers 25 percent more energy than is used (mostly fossil fuel) in producing it, though much of that 25 percent energy dividend comes from the production of an ethanol byproduct, animal feed."

"But the net energy gain is much higher -- 93 percent -- from biodiesel fuel derived from soybeans. And alternative crops such as switchgrass or mixed prairie grasses, which can grow on marginal land with minimal input of fossil fuel derived fertilizers and pesticides, offer the best hope for the future."

Is anybody doing biodiesel hybrids, well Dodge can build one.  They had a prototype in the Dodge ESX3 that was developed just prior to the 2000 article linked above.  It gets 72 miles per gallon! Dodge, with Daimler's legendary diesel engineering these are the right people to do this.  We need to pressure / Incentive Chrysler to do this!  I'd buy one provided they could reduce the cost.  I live in Dalton Georgia, and have a biodiesel  filling station as close as Chattanooga  (about 20 miles.)  There's a page site dedicated to finding biodiesel filling station at http://www.biodiesel.org/buyingbiodiesel/retailfuelingsites/

It seems we have a viable solution to many of our needs with existing technology.  let's all push for that, and pass on the tortilla rate hike.
